Conductors

 

JOHN ENZ, now in his 25th season as Artistic Director of YOCJ and Conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra, earned a master’s degree in cello performance and music education from Temple University.  He completed undergraduate studies at Goshen College, Indiana, with further study at both the University of Michigan and the Interlochen Center for the Arts.  Early in his career, Mr. Enz spent two years working with the music students of Ecole St. Trinite and the Haitian Orchestra in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  He toured with this group on the East Coast and to Tanglewood Music Camp.    For over thirty years, Mr. Enz has taught in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District where he is currently Orchestra Director at High School North.  Mr. Enz is a free-lance cellist and since 1980 has been a member of the Princeton Symphony info@yocj.org

Phillip Pugh

PHILLIP PUGH, Assistant Director of the program and Conductor of the Pro Arte and String Preparatory Orchestras, holds a master's degree in music theory from  Temple University where he studied violin with Helen Kwalwasser, Larry Grieka and Julian Meyer.  He also studied Suzuki pedagogy with Linda Fiore and has attended numerous Suzuki seminars. Mr. Pugh has taught at the Csehy Summer School of Music in Pennsylvania and the Koka Gakuen in Tokyo, Japan.  He currently free-lances in the Greater Princeton area, teaches at the West Windsor Plainsboro Millstone River School and serves as one of the school district's music facilitators.  Mr. Pugh has been with YOCJ since1989. info@yocj.org

BRIAN WOODWARD, Conductor of The Wind Symphony and the Brass Choir of YOCJ, is a graduate of the College of New Jersey and holds a degree in trumpet performance and music education.  In addition to soloing and performing with the Eastern Wind Ensemble, Mr. Woodward freelances in the Greater Princeton area and teaches at the West Windsor-Plainsboro Community Middle School. Mr. Woodward has been with YOCJ since 1999. info@yocj.org
Jordan Smith

JORDAN P. SMITH, Conductor of the Saxophone Choir, is a New York based saxophonist and conductor. He holds a Master of Music in saxophone performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and a bachelor’s in music education from The College of New Jersey. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. He has performed throughout The United States and Greece, most recently in multiple performances with Michael Tilson Thomas and The New World Symphony, The TCNJ Orchestra, The Brooklyn College Orchestra, the MSM Orchestra and the Manhattan Quartet.  Mr. Smith can be heard on Carrier Records for the premier recording of Inhyun Kim's Saxophone Quartet. Mr. Smith is currently the Interim Adjunct Professor of saxophone at William Paterson University and is the saxophone instructor for Mason Gross School of the Arts extension division.

Christopher Wickham

CHRISTOPHER WICKHAM, Woodwind Choir Coach and Director, is an active bassoonist, who has performed throughout North America, Europe and Hawaii as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. He holds a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music, a Master of Music degree from Temple University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Portland State University.  Mr. Wickham has participated in many music festivals and has performed with numerous groups in Hawaii, Mexico, Texas, Philadelphia, Delaware, Vancouver, New York and New Jersey. Currently he is principal of the Riverside Symphonia and a section member of Symphony in C in New Jersey and the Amarillo Symphony in Texas. Mr. Wickham is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Rutgers University.  He resides in Philadelphia and is the proprietor of CW Reeds, a bassoon reed making company established in 2008.

PETER SALEH, Conductor of the Percussion Ensemble, holds a Master of Music from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music from Rutgers University. Mr. Saleh is active as a percussionist/composer in the NY/NJ area. He is a founding member of New Jersey's own Exit 9 Percussion Group and has performed extensively in the New York City area, on both US coasts and tours in Asia. He has published scores for percussion, which have been performed throughout the country and collaborated with and scored work for numerous choreographers. Mr. Saleh is an adjunct Professor of Percussion at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, a faculty member at the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase teaching music for dance and is on faculty at the Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division. Mr. Saleh has been with YOCJ since 2008.  fo@yocj.org
